Update: Frances Rivera will be leaving WHDH to join WPIX, New York’s affiliate of The CW. She will be anchoring the PIX 11 Morning News. ‘PIX tells TVSpy, “Frances’ experience and talent will be great assets to our award-winning morning newscast, we’re looking forward to having her join the team later this summer.” Incidentally, WPIX is owned by Tribune Corp, who formerly owned 7 sister-station WLVI.
Frances Rivera, lead anchor at WHDH, announced today that she will leave the station next month. She tells the Boston Globe that the decision to leave 7 and 56 was “bittersweet.”
“For me, this isn’t a professional move. This is a personal move,” she tells the Globe, “It was great to be in Boston in the position I was in. I get to check that off in my career bucket list.”
Rivera has been the lead anchor at channel 7 since 2006, and has been with the station for ten years.
I don’t think WHDH will replace Frances Rivera.
Look for Kim Khazei to anchor the news part of the 5/6/11 P.M. broadcasts “solo”.
This will save the station money.
She’s going to WPIX… reported this morning on TVSpy
They definitely will have two anchors. They can still be cheap as they are with all of their employees and have two sitting there. Regardless, it doesn’t make much difference with what it really an outdated concept. 7 needs to concentrate on moving into 2011 from 1991.
There is an article in the Boston online paper (Boston.com or BostonHerald.com ?) claiming that Ch. 7′s “top brass was very unhappy” with Frances last month, for picketing the Health and Fitness expo. IMO, she could have been let go. Contract up, anyway, in October. Look. You’ll find that story.
I believe Kim will anchor with Matt Lorch, maybe ? Or Ann Allred ?
Hi Matt Lorch is leaving WHDH 7 News too read it on this site in another post from BTVN so read that post
they should tag kim with anne. anne is ready for her big shot.
Seemed like Frances and Kim didn’t get along, just from their awkward on-air banter (which was considerably less awkward whenever one of the two was on vacation). Frances is also quoted as saying the move was “bittersweet” and “personal, not professional.”
I like them both, though, and will miss Frances. Godspeed!
