Reid Lamberty has been named anchor of 7 News at 5, 6, and 11 p.m. Lamberty comes to 7 from WSVN in Miami, where he has been since May 2010. Prior to that, he had been a morning anchor at WNYW in New York City.
Lamberty had been spotted auditioning for the main gig a few weeks ago, but Sunbeam brass made it official this evening. He will begin anchoring on Monday afternoon. However, still no word on who will anchor in Matt Lorch’s place.

Hat tip to astute reader Edward R. Murrow, who broke the news nearly two hours before the Globe.
WHDH announces that Reid Lamberty has been named the new co-anchor of 7 News at 5pm, 6pm, 10pm and 11pm with Kim Khazei. Reid replaces Frances Rivera who left last month. He’ll debut on Monday September 12, 2011.
Reid grew up in Central New Jersey and attended college at Bowling Green University in Bowling Green Ohio. He’s worked in New Jersey, Boston, New York and most recently, Miami as an anchor and reporter. While working in Boston, he traveled to Bosnia to report on the Massachusetts National Guard troops there and covered the tragic events of September 11th.
“Reid is the consummate pro. He’s an experienced journalist and a perfect complement to Kim on the anchor desk. We are thrilled he’s joining the 7 News Team,” says General Manager Chris Wayland.
“I can’t wait to return to Boston and join 7 News, a station with such a strong commitment to news. I look forward to making New England my home once again,” says Reid Lamberty.
WHDH-TV is owned by Sunbeam Television Corporation, which also owns WLVI-TV (CW affiliate in Boston) and WSVN-TV in Miami, the Fox affiliate.
He used to work at 25 a few years ago.
Not that it makes much difference to me, since I can’t stand to watch the ridiculousness of 7, but I guess the “Girls” team idea didn’t work, so I guess they are moving on to some new stuntman. I’m sure Mr. Laberty is perfectly competent, but I doubt that is at all why 7 hired him. Probably unemployed and really inexpensive and maybe cute. Now that they have run off Frances Rivera and Matt Lorch, I’d guess that’s what they are down too. Save a little more money
