4 Goes Dark… Literally

WBZ was the victim of a lightning strike this afternoon during a live weather broadcast.  The strike caused the studio lights to go out, and also briefly affected the sound and background monitors.  Chief met Todd Gutner continued the broadcast, informing viewers of the situation and working to continue presenting the forecast.

  • Gentlemen: I am a “rabbit ears” viewer to Ch4 and Ch38. I live in Middleboro Ma.
Lately the signal strength for Ch4 has been weak resulting in
sporadic reception, and the signal from Ch38 has disappeared entirely.
Is this due to the lightning strike, and are any steps being taken
to return transmission to their former levels?
A simple yes or no would be great.
    Thanks, J. Sayward
