First on btvn: Mish Michaels Re-Appears on (Newly Graphic-ed) 5

Former WBZer Mish Michaels has reappeared on NewsCenter5.  The popular met joined the station today to report on Hurricane Sandy.

Michaels, a veteran of the Boston TV market, left channel 4 last year.  No word yet on her capacity at the station.

  • This could be just a one-time appearance…I saw her on NECN during either Snowtober or Irene last year, so it may just be that she gets involved for big-ticket storms

  • I miss Mish so much

  • An appearance on FXT and she will have completed the Boston station superfecta, now having appeared on 4, 5 and 7.

On an unrelated note, why did WCVB go through a graphics and music change? Didn’t they already do that once when they made the switch to HD? I used to commonly hum the previous NewsCenter 5 theme…this new one sounds so clunky. Would love to know what drives executives to eliminate catchy news themes for ones of lesser quality (then again this opinion is coming from someone who still enjoys the old newscast themes of the 1980′s).

    • The company that owns Channel 5 has been rolling out an identical version of the package for their other affiliates. Having one package across the board reduces cost compared to the three different versions of the music and two graphics packages that they had been using previously.

As far as the graphics are concerned, they switched to HD in 2007, over five years ago. In contrast, WBZ, 7, and Fox25 have all switched twice since then.
