Longtime NewsCenter5 weatherman David Brown will be leaving the station for a new role at the Forsyth Institute. The seventeen year veteran will become the new Chief Advancement Officer at the independent oral health research institution.
‘CVB General Manager Bill Fine remarks in a press release, ”David Brown has ably served Channel 5 and the Boston marketplace with great dedication through a variety of roles,” while News Director Andrew Vrees added, “David’s skill and unflappable style during major weather events has made him highly valued by viewers. David’s talents—across many aspects of our business—will be sorely missed.”
The popular meteorologist joined Channel 5 in 1995 from Hearst sister station WISN in Milwaukee. After floating through several roles, Brown remarked, “I’m leaving WCVB with mixed emotions. It has been my honor to have worked alongside the finest in broadcasting at the nation’s top station. I’m leaving to pursue an exciting opportunity at the Forsyth Institute, another Boston institution. I’m so grateful and thankful to all our viewers who have made me feel so welcomed in their homes.”
No word yet on his last day at the station, or his replacement.
a huge loss to boston media. He will be missed.
best of luck to david in his new path in life
A *huge* loss to the Boston
market.
The best of luck, David.
I have enjoyed watching David Brown for the past 17 years.
He will be greatly missed.
The best of luck to David!
Best wishes to David Brown. Newscenter 5 never really appreciated David’s talent and put the screws to him more than once.
We will miss you David. Not much more reason to watch 5 News excepting for Harding and Unru.
Davids a class talent!
Watched A.J. Burnett on Channel 5′s Weekend Eye Opener this morning. Is he David’s replacement?
A.J. is just filling in until a person is hired.
I’ sorry AJ is only filling in.
I would like to see him get the
permanent position.
Unfortunately, A.J. did not get the position. A young woman Danielle Vollmar was hired. A.J. posted on FB and Twitter that Easter weekend is his last appearance.
David Brown was channel 5′s greatest asset, and was the main reason that WCVB TV is my news channel. I feel as though channel 5 caused his departure by hiring Randy Price and shuffling David around. this is very disturbing to me, and it remains to be seen whether or not WCVB will remain my news channel.
