5 Making Moves at Both Dayparts


NewsCenter5 morning meteorologist J.C. Monahan is leaving the Eyeopener, according to WCVB.com.  Her new role will be co-host of nightly news-magazine Chronicle.  Her dayside replacement is former Fox25 morning met Cindy Fitzgibbon.

GM Bill Fine wasted no time showering praise upon both weather guessers, commenting, “JC is an extraordinarily talented journalist and was looking for a new challenge. Cindy is someone we long admired as a competitor and was looking for a return to local television after taking six months off to be with her family.”  He added, “The timing was incredibly fortunate for NewsCenter 5 and Chronicle, as this is a true perfect match in every way, for our viewers, JC and Cindy.”

If you may remember, Fitzgibbon left Fox25 six months ago to spend more time with her family.  No word yet on her first day at 5 TV Place.


Just In: Fox25 Replaces Cindy with Shiri


Fox25 has finally named a replacement for departed morning met Cindy FitzgibbonShiri Spear, formerly of Miami’s WTVJ (NBC/6), has been hired at the Dedham-based O&O.

Spear was lauded by 25 news director Paul McGonagle, remarking in a statement, “Shiri brings an abundance of knowledge and experience in forecasting New England weather,” adding, “She will be a great addition to the FOX25 weather team and we’re happy to welcome her back to her hometown.”

The New England native will join the Fox25 Morning News on November 19th.  She replaces Cindy Fitzgibbon, who left the station in September to “take a breather.”

Longtime Fox25 morning met Cindy Fitzgibbon announced this morning that she will be leaving the station.  After joining the morning news at its inception in 2003, Fitzgibbon became a fixture on the popular morning show.

In her announcement, she remarked that “I’ve made a decision, just really for personal reasons, that when my contract expires on October 3, I’m not going to re-sign,” adding, “I just kind of want to take a little bit of a break. My last day will be in two weeks.”

No word yet on her replacement, though her last day is in two weeks.
